A Simple Way To Sort down The Sports

While walking down the street, if you get to pass by a park or playground, you will find a number of people engaged in different activity. Some can be seen engaged in a cycling, a group using baseball equipment, while a person is busy giving baseball instruction to the apparently new ones. All in all, everyone is engaged in some sort of activity. It is quite obvious that the young people are more interested in physical sports in spite of just sitting or playing board games. Yet, each individual likes a different sort of sports. When we think of categorizing the sports into categories, the number of classifications is unbelievable. From bat and ball, sports to motor sports, from diving sports to cue sports, from water sports to sky diving, there are just so many.

Sorting a number of sports in explicit categories is definitely a tough task. But in the ball park, we can manage to come up with few criteria that can place a sport in the closest possible category. Using these criteria, the categories that have been formed are as follows,

• Racing Sports: In racing sports, there are several competitors racing against each other and sometimes also in teams. The major aim of a race is to be the fastest and first one to reach the goal. Racing sports can be subcategorized in to three types of sports; human powered sports such as running and swimming, Human assisted such as cycling and rowing and External powered like motor sports and sailing.

• Opponent sports: These sports are typically a competition between two opponents where the scores achieved by the players decides the winner. The opponent sports can also be divided into three main categories Court sports are the ones that are played in a court for e.g as tennis, badminton and squash. Combat sports are close physical encounters between the rivals for e.g. Karate and boxing. And the Team sports are those which teams play against other teams like football and cricket. It can be possible that a court sport is also a a team sport.

• Achievement sports: Achievement sports can be called as the ones in which the competitors show off their skills. The categories can help you understand it more clearly. There are three types of achievement sports; Target sports are the ones in which the aim is to acieve or hit a target e.g. shooting and archery. Display sports are the ones in which the participants display certain ability or moves like in bodybuilding, gymnastics and diving. In strength sports, the participants show off their strength as in weight lifting and triple jump.

• Athletics: Finally, there are athletics in which the competitors have to show their aptitude in a combination of various sports from above defined categories. We can roughly categorize these into running, jumping and throwing. The competitors have to take part in in a chain of several games and the participants with highest overall score is the winner.

This was only a simple categorization of sports, if you go into deeper details of all these categories. Although, if you study each category seprately, you will find that they can still be sub divided into several other categories as well.
